ABOUT US
Blue Ridge Junior Derby is an open-gender, flat-track, full contact roller derby league for youths under 18. We are official members of JRDA, the Junior Roller Derby Association. Junior Roller Derby is a place where youths learn team work, good values, discipline, interaction, and stewardship through the competitive sport of Flat Track Roller Derby!

 

WHAT IS ROLLER DERBY?
Roller Derby is a contact sport played on roller skates. Two teams of 5 skaters are on a track competing against each other to get the most points by their designated skater, the jammer, passing the other team's blockers as many times as they can per 2 minute jam. The team with the most points at the end of two 30 minute periods that make up a bout wins! To learn even more you can read all of the rules at WFTDA.com

WHEN DO WE PLAY?
Our season runs from January through November with the months of July and December off.

We practice Monday nights at Smoky Mountain Event Center at 758 Crabtree Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785

WHAT AGE DOES MY SKATER NEED TO BE?

Our youngest skater is 7 years old! We will teach your kiddo to skate and play derby at any age. 

In order to play in level 3 games, skaters must be at least 12 years old and able to sign their own waivers.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Dues each month are $40 per skater. Skaters must also have skating insurance, which is $40 per year.

We have some loaner gear available, but skaters will need to be outfitted with their own gear. This includes quad skates, a MIPS-certified helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, and a mouthguard.
